“And Miss Armada 2018 is, Alexandra Reschke” shock rushed through my body, as I had adrenaline pushing me towards the front of the stage. I nervously smiled to the crowd and bent down for the past queen Olivia to put the crown on my head for the first time. Little did I know that crown would adjust to fit perfectly to my head as I adjusted into my new role as queen. Being Miss Armada 2018 has presented so many learning experiences, prideful moments, and overall joyous times representing my community. Armada is a community full of kind-hearted people who really want to help whoever is in need. To be chosen to represent this tight knit community is an honor, which myself and my court members (Joanie Seefried & Bethany Ruczynski) took very seriously striving to uphold these morals.

We have so many precious memories of the children at the fair and at the parades looking up to us, and eagerly trying to grasp our attention with their frantic waving. Each one of us laughs and waves back, maybe even blew some kisses. But to me it was a turning point, where I realized we were not only representing the present community, we were molding the future of Armada. One wise woman named Nancy Bliss said to me, “Soak it in girls, because it goes fast” and she was not kidding. This opportunity went by in a blink, and now we all have amazing memories to reminisce on forever.

I encourage everyone in the community to nominate a young woman you know, who you think would love to have the experiences of a lifetime. And to the girls on the fence about applying: You will learn so much about your hometown, yourself, and how much this community really means to you. It is so rewarding to have this title, you will not regret applying. Besides, if you never apply, who knows what the outcome would have been if you did?”

-Alexandra Reschke, 2018 Armada Fair Queen
